Kateri Tekakwitha, known as the Lily of the Mohawks, is North America’s first Indigenous Saint. This Retreat Day will trace her beginnings from a village ravaged by a smallpox epidemic, leaving her orphaned at 4 years old. She endured many sufferings and felt called to be baptized a Christian by the Jesuits. There have been many healings attributed to her. Yet, she was also a child of nature, always seeking God in creation. The church has named her a patron saint of ecology.
